This section of our display consisted of large plants of Meconopsis
cultivars, with a very few species, including one Stylophorum, which had bright yellow flowers.
There was a very large plant of Meconopsis 'Huntfield', which is reckoned to be the best cultivar for growing in the South of England.
A new cultivar, which it is intended should be named 'Canbusnethan Priory', was included. It shows that excellent new varieties can still be bred, to add to those that are already well known.
This enormous Meconopsis x complexa, more than 2 metres tall and growing by 10 cm or more a day, was particularly prominent and impressive. It had been grown by our President, Helen Knowles, who received a special award for cultivation from the Herbaceous Plant Expert Group of the Royal Horticulural Society.
